We collect used bicycles and sewing machines for developing nations such as Nicaragua, Ghana, Albania, Fiji and Guatemala in need of basic family transportation. We work collecting bicycles and sewing machines Year Round in conjunction with Pedals for Progress. Bikes should be rust free but flat tires and minor repairs are fine.  We only accept portable sewing machines in working order.  Sorry no tricycles or scooters please.
Please Note: It costs about $35 to ship a bike, due to these  shipping costs, we ask for a $10 donation with each bike or machine. Give us a call (484) 994-2349

  • A Thank You Note and a Mission of Mercy
Making Smiles - One of the projects we support is our Rotaplast mission. We send teams of surgeons and nonprofessionals to visit countries and make children smile by repairing their disfiguring cleft palate or cleft lip.  Here a note from Edarase Tose (Venezuela) after receiving mercy surgery to correct cleft lip possible by our donation.

Cleft Palate and cleft lip is a birth defect which not only disfigures the mouth and lips leaving physical scarring with gaps or holes where the skin doesn’t close, it also causes emotional, speech and even breathing issues for infants, following them into adulthood. These disfigurements can be corrected through surgery with excellent outcomes. Rotary sends traveling surgical teams where Rotary volunteers along with surgeons and medical support teams visit these villages to perform the corrective surgery. That’s why we call it the "Making Smiles” project, not only for children but also their parents.

  • Supporting Literacy
Each year we gift about 700 Spanish-English dictionaries to every 3rd grader in the NASD.  We tell them about Rotary then have them write their names inside the cover.  These books often go home and get a lot of usage both at school and home.  Here club members are inserting the name labels.

Bob Schmidt (Project Chair) greets Principal Janette Fernandez and Asst Supt. Christopher Dormer.

  • Louise Zawadzki Visits Bangladesh
Rotarian Louise Zawadzki joined Rotary after retiring as a speech therapist. Louise wanted to donate her skills to help others with speech issues, particularly young children where  learning to talk is critical. So she volunteered to join a Rotaplast mercy mission arranged by Rotary to surgically correct disfigurements of cleft palate and cleft lip. The team mission led by Randy Floyd to Bangladesh gave one of the best holiday presents ever. They gave children with cleft lip/palate a smile and a chance to live a normal life. Thank you to the team!

  • Feeding The Hungry
Several times each year we partner with Advocates Against Hunger to support their fresh produce distribution. Needy families and individuals must pre-qualify. But it enables families who may be going without badly needed nutrients for a healthy diet to receive help.

Members worked all morning along with other volunteers to unload the truck, sort and package and distribute produce.

  • The Rotary Club of Norristown volunteers serve at the Advocates Against Hunger food distribution at the Norristown Public Library
Nov 8, 2014 Club members help distribute fresh produce to those who sacrifice such things just trying to make ends meet.  Emily Sayre works packing grapes along side of her dad, Jim Sayre Jr.  who is a club member.  Club members collaborated with volunteers from several organizations including CADCOM, Lower Providence Pres. Church, Catholic Services et. al.  There was a large turnout but refrigeration was not an issue on such a brisk fall morning.  This was the 4th distribution this year.  These distributions were funded by Rotary.
