LAST WEEK
CAROL BAUER - GARDEN OF HEALTH FOOD BANK

Last Thursday, we learned about the Garden of Health Food Bank from its founder, CAROL BAUER.  Carol related how the diagnosis of Celiac disease in her daughter combined with her desire to make fresh  and healthy food more available to needy persons in the community, inspired her to start gardens to fill this need. What started as a function operating out of her garage has grown to an organization that distributed over 10,000lbs of food last year, providing 2.2 million servings, out of a 7500 sq. ft. warehouse.
Garden of Health distributes food to individuals and to 50 food pantries in the area, most of it grown in their 8 aches farm in Hatfield. The farm is run completely by volunteers which includes between 500 to 600 individuals each year. Burpee Seed has supplied seed to them for the last several years which they share with other community food farms.
She stated that the group has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and she hopes to double their growing area over the next few years.
To learn more, or to volunteer a group or yourself, check their website :   https://www.gardenofhealthinc.org
