This week we had the privilege of hosting Jake’s Baristas. Speakers Jake and his mom Angela McFarland attended our meeting to share with the club. Jake’s business mission is committed to inclusion and helps teens and adults with special needs grow throw meaningful experience and gain social skills necessary for living in today’s world. And to help qualify individuals with work experience and skills to gain and hold meaningful employment and grow as individuals. Challenged with his own special needs, Jake decided it was also important to help others dealing with this difficult and frightening challenge. Angela described that challenge for parents of affected families facing the question, what can they do once the special needs education completes and they graduate. She told us about her discovery of Jake’s talents one day when he surprised her and educated her on just about everything it takes to be a professional barista. Jake had taken the initiative to do his own research and education on the subject online and it was something that interested him. He saw a future for himself. The family runs a record store Vinyl Closet Records at 2117 West Main Street Jeffersonville and they found a perfect match of music and coffee. So they constructed a coffee bar right within the record store, owned, licensed and operated by Jake himself. Please come visit and you’ll find Jake behind the counter mixing a vast selection of coffee delights. They also have a mobile coffee shop which they travel out to various partner events on site. As if it wasn’t enough, the family decided it was also important to help others. Currently, they work with the public school providing internship opportunities for others challenged with special needs. They partner with numerous other helping organizations since 2020 donating and helping them fund raise to address their cause. They have donated and invested most of their life savings of $350,000 to helping other organizations and now they need others to chip in and help them. They have worked with established organizations like The Norristown Hospitality Center and Laurel House in helping them fundraise and help others. Angela beamed with pride as she told use Jake was nominated as one of Montgomery County’s Best of 2026 Entrepreneurs. Jake’s Baristas will be hosting their annual fundraiser on April 2nd, at the Cedars Banquet Hall at 810 West Germantown Pike. They are seeking both attendees and sponsorship.
