As we approach Memorial Day, Shaun Fishburn, speaker/volunteer representing the Travis Marion Foundation spoke to us about the foundation.  1st Lt. Travis Manion was a US Marine from the Doylestown area who was killed in active service in Al Anbar, Iraq by a sniper attack in 2007. He was decorated posthumously with the Silver Star Award.
Travis was a graduate College High School. His family and his room mate Brendan Looney felt strongly about a foundation to help struggling veterans. Sadly Brendan was also killed 2 years later in training. The foundation puts a lot of emphasis in programs that provide personal development, youth development and community engagement. Fundraising is accomplished through donations, the 9./11 Heroes Run Race Series, the Manion WOD (a workout of the day conducted at many gyms and clubs. and the Marine Corps Marathon. The foundation’s step up and get involved, motto is: “If Not Me, Then Who…” The impact of their work includes improving overall veteran health and well being in the ’Spartan Leadership Program, building character in our youth in the ‘Character Does Matter’ program and strengthening the community in numerous service projects and fundraising races..
