Please Help the Ronald McDonald House

The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks. The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital. Start a jar, they add up. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information

Celebrate Community Sept 11-17

Celebrate Community 2023

Rotary International and District 7430 have asked clubs to participate in Celebrate Community week Sept 11-17, 2023.

All four organizers are working to gather to plan projects together during this week to help the community.

Our club has begun discussions with a Kiwanis club in the area. President Mary Onama is chairing the initiative and began working with them. If you have ideas and wish to work with Mary please reach out.

One Book One Norristown Opportunity 8-7

See the following request for volunteers from Eileen Hallstrom and the Literacy Council

We have an opportunity to help with painting a mural at a school the week of 8/7.

It will be focused on the theme from One Book One Norristown, The Book of Lost Saints by Daniel Jose Older.

This is a new and growing initiative, and it has evolved to include 12 community literacy partners in Norristown.

I have attached a recap of our (newly) developed goals for you to see.

It would be wonderful to talk with Rotary members about it, and the service opportunities that are available through it.

LAST WEEK

Canine Partners for Life

We were visited today by Canine Partners for Life. This non-profit located in Concordville Pa trains service dogs. Dogs take minimally 2 years to train until they are old enough to adopt. And while most dogs learn basic skills like walking with you all the way to pushing an elevator button or opening a cabinet. They are taught not to automatically pickup something small so that they don't accidentally ingest someone's medication. Some dogs are capable and learn advanced skills. Depending on the alertness the dog demonstrates, they learn very advanced skills and can warn an owner if sugar levels are dangerous simply by taste, visually alert dogs can detect an epileptic seizure.
