Dr. JORGE S. ZAVALA from the Norriton Hearing Center addressed the club last week on the subject of hearing loss and the importance of taking corrective action as soon as it is detected. He presented the facts and myths concerning hearing health and the solutions available to correct hearing loss. There are three levels of support for those with loss of hearing: the highest level is the Eye NoseThroat doctors, followed by an Audiologist- who is trained in diagnosis and correction concepts, and lastly the hearing instrument specialist. The first two are doctors the last is a technician. Dr. Zavala stressed that only 5-10% of hearing loss is treatable, thus the need for hearing aids to alleviate the problem. He stated that there is a clear indication of the detrimental effects of loss of hearing the the onset of dementia. Hearing aids have been shown to reduces the loss of cognition by 30%. He then outlined some of the early signs of hearing loss He strongly encourages everyone to see an audiologist if any of these symptoms appear. For those of us who have resisted getting hearing aids he had the analogy that "Hearing aids are glasses for the ears" Dr. Zavala can be reached for more information or an appointment at Norriton Hearing Center 610-277-8255 jzavala@norritonhearing.com thank you Dr. Zavala
