So get cleaning out your attics and garages.
We will be accepting your "treasures" at each of the Thursday meetings. You can also drop your items off to my house at 42 Pinetree Dr. in Audubon no later than September 15th.
Also - We need volunteers to help with the selling of items and Rotary itself.
Spring cleaning = treasure waiting to be found! If your closets, basements, or garages are bursting with goodies you no longer need, don’t toss — turn them into fun (and fundraising)!
What’s happening....On September 19 we’ll be at the Lower Providence Community Yard Sale from 8:00 AM–2:00 PM. Diane Helm will collect gently used, re-sellable items at a Rotary Table to raise funds for the Club. How to help.....Bring your donations to any Rotary meeting by September 10. Want to join the fun on the day? Sign up for a 2-hour shift to chat with shoppers. Share what the Norristown Rotary does, and help sell great finds. Why join....Clear clutter, earn smiles, and support the Club — plus hunting for bargains is half the fun! DAVID YOUNG - Executive Director- Montgomery County Historical Society
Last week, the Club was entertained by David Young, Exec Dir. Montco Historical Society, who talked about the Society's history, what it covers, and the background of a few interesting items.
He began by speaking on the 250 celebration which is following the format of their USA 100th celebration in Fairmount Park. (the Society was founded in 1818) It was that event that sparked David's interest in MONTCO's history and led him to the leadership of the society.
Their new home is in a a residential district 1654 DeKalb Street Norristown, PA 1940, and features a library of over 40,000 documents on Montgomery County, including extensive family histories of prominent , early County residents.
The Society runs the Montgomery County Cemetery where over 6000 are buries, including many from the Battle of Germantown.
David highlighted stories from the times around the withdrawal to Valley Forge, and an incident involving Col. Andrew Knox, who single handedly defended critical ammunition stores from a loyalist attack. The Society has the actual bullet- marked door from Knox's house.
He rounded out the presentation by showing his book"The Battles of Germantown" which is written in the first person mode . The book is available from Temple Press

Last Wednesday, The ROTARY CLUB OF NORRISTOWN did volunteer work at The Patrician Society, a Norristown based organization that provides emergency food distributions, among other services ,for the community. We helped prepare packages for handing out later in the day, and performed stocking tasks to aid the Society's staff.
This annual service project is a fine opportunity to assist an organization doing such great work in the Norristown community, and to work with other volunteers and the Society's hard working staff.
