Anne Leavitt-Gruberger Last Thursday, the Club welcomed Anne Leavitt-Gruberger, County Planning Manager for the Montgomery County Planning Commission, who gave us an overview of the functioning of the commission, highlighting its responsibilities, accomplishments, and plans for the future. The commission acts as the advisory agency for the county, collecting and analyzing development plans from the many municipalities in the county, concerning future growth, transportation needs, landscaping, open spaces, and many other topics that they are considering. The planning commission evaluates each and rates them on how they support the current county plan and plans that are being worked on. The current plan, MONTCO2040, created in 2010, has been used as a basis for projects throughout the county and for the support that the planning commission gives to the local governments in the way of investments, infrastructure, land use, housing, and growth in general. Anne detailed the work being done on the new plan, MONTCO2050, noting that many of the old conditions have drastically changed, many due to Covid, and that new thinking is needed. To that end, they have created an on-line survey, asking residents to give their inputs concerning county needs as they see them. These will help direct the commission to areas that are of major interest to the people.
