Hope everyone had a great summer. We are moving ahead to the fall with some ideas.
One of them is to return to having all meetings in person, with a zoom connection open for those who are unable to attend. This initiative was well received during the meeting last Thursday, where a quorum of the board and officers were present.
We would like to gather any thoughts, opinions, and questions from the membership. Please reply to Mary O., me ( this message ), Judy, or Mark.
The yearly added expense of making this change would be $1600 to the Hyatt. The Hyatt was contacted and can accomodate us, except for a few dates we will know about ASAP. This would not be a serious budget issue.
Our club will be supporting the Sole Harvest 5k again this year. Turnout last year was good. We had transportation and a loud cheering station out by the water tower, made lots of noise and had a lot of fun. And an opportunity to help the Norristown Hospitality Center as well as our community.
This year we will be displaying our support rally signage and Rotary's commitment to serving our community.

The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks. The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital. Start a jar, they add up. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information
OUR CLUB IN ACTION DURING 'CELEBRATE COMMUNITY WEEK'
At 'Art in the Park' yesterday. We invited the future Rotaract club forming, to join us. Jane brought along her Spirograph which turned out to be one of the busiest tables there. Thanks to our host 'Expressive Path.
Rotary and Kiwanis worked together during "Celebrate Community Week" this week (Sept 11-17), to collect and deliver food and needed personal care items intended for the community. Here club members from both clubs unloaded a pallet of collected items and delivered them to Martha's Choice Marketplace food shelter in Norristown.
Our Club also had a booth at the E. Norriton Community Day Sept.9.
Celebrate Community Week (Sept 11-17, 2023) started a few years ago to encourage members of local Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, and Optimist clubs to work together on collaborative service projects and showcase the value of service in our communities. Service projects focus on the environment, food insecurity and hunger, health and wellness, and education and literacy. It is intended to involve youth groups also.
In addition to making new friends, we can do more when we work together harnessing the collective power of our four organizations’ 3.4 million members and Celebrate Community together.
The Rotary Club of Norristown and the Kiwanis Club of Collegeville connected through mutual friends to plan a collaborative project in early August.
The groups reached out to Martha’s Choice Marketplace, a food pantry located in Norristown. Martha’s Choice was helpful in providing a short list of badly needed items to aid the Montgomery County community. Following our project discussion, a picnic was planned on Aug. 31st for both clubs to meet and begin assembling collected items and it was off to a good start.
The final delivery at Martha’s Choice was on Sept 12th where the team members met and dropped off a full pallet of food and personal care and household items.
The project was a great opportunity for all three organizations to partner, make new friends and build team synergy in serving others in need.
Martha’s Choice Marketplace is the largest food pantry serving Montgomery County addressing food insecurity. They operate not only a food pantry but also a food grower. They operate a small community farm/garden in Audubon. Last year they delivered 2.3 million pounds of food, personal care and household items to those in need. And their client base grew 66% last year. They eagerly accepted our contributions.
Dear Mary , Many have asked how our clubs can support our friends and Rotarians after the tragedy in Hawaii. I wanted to share this information in case you haven't seen it on Facebook. We know that the money will be well stewarded and go directly where it is most needed guided by Rotarians. Thank you for your generosity. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.
