We take a moment to celebrate and congratulate NICK GEERS on his 60 year anniversary as a member of The ROTARY CLUB OF NORRISTOWN. We all appreciate his dedication and loyalty to the ROTARY goals and programs that have spanned those many years. He hans been and remains a guiding influence and leader of our club.
Thanks you NICK for all these years of service, and we are looking forward to many more.
FUTURE MEETING LOCATION CHANGE
NOTE: The October 5th and October 12th meeting WILL NOT be held at the Hyatt.
The hotel has revoked use of the conference room that day.
We will be meeting at the Montgomery County Norristown Public Library for Oct 5th and 12th.

Hope everyone had a great summer. We are moving ahead to the fall with some ideas.
One of them is to return to having all meetings in person, with a zoom connection open for those who are unable to attend. This initiative was well received during the meeting last Thursday, where a quorum of the board and officers were present.
We would like to gather any thoughts, opinions, and questions from the membership. Please reply to Mary O., me ( this message ), Judy, or Mark.
The yearly added expense of making this change would be $1600 to the Hyatt. The Hyatt was contacted and can accomodate us, except for a few dates we will know about ASAP. This would not be a serious budget issue.
Flashback toJanuary 19th, 2017 (Dressed to the Tee)
Tom Bown brought his live tutorial on Croquet to our club last Thursday. Besides the demonstrating the appropriate attire for the sport of Golf Croquet, he went into the rules, techniques, strategies, and etiquette of the game, which is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. The "GOLF" designation separates this form of Coquet from the more traditional , original form of the game, and intends to make the game move faster. Tom plays at a club near his winter home in the Carolinas, which has become the new center for the sport in the U.S., and he stressed the appeal of the sport due to its shorter duration, its ability to attract players of differing levels of talent. He detailed the strategy of blocking, looking ahead, and the skills needed to put a ball through wickets that are only 1.5" wider than the ball.
Our club will be supporting the Sole Harvest 5k again this year. Turnout last year was good. We had transportation and a loud cheering station out by the water tower, made lots of noise and had a lot of fun. And an opportunity to help the Norristown Hospitality Center as well as our community.
This year we will be displaying our support rally signage and Rotary's commitment to serving our community.

Click on the 'Online Registration' button and add your name.
The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks. The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital. Start a jar, they add up. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information
Last week we has two speakers for our in-person meeting: JUDY BUCKO talking on Rotaplast, and DAVID FUSCO telling us all about Bocce in Norristown.
JUDY related some of her experiences in assisting medical teams who travelled to South America to perform surgeries on children with cleft pallets. This is an activity she has participated in for several tears and encouraged us to continue to support Rotaplast as we have in the past. She invited us to join her in this service and noted that there is a fundraiser on Oct. 21 at the Pennsylvania Playhouse. See the details in this edition of SPOKE.
DAVID FUSCO - NORRISTOWN BOCCE LEAGUE
DAVID FUSCO spoke of the origins of the Norristown Bocce League of which he is one of the founding members., and past president. He. helped form the league 23 years ago with 8 two man teams playing at the Elmwood Park . Hw worked with the Borough to get an area and build bocce courts in the park. The league now has 500 members with another 200 on the waiting list. What started as a Norristown operation has grown to an areawide bocce organization with over 3500 league members in this area. Many communities have followed Norristown's lead and put in bocce courts and filled their rosters quickly. David led the effort to include women and more recently, create competition for physically impaired individuals. They host an annual fundraising event, bringing yeast from all over the area to a two day competition, held this year the first weekend in October.
