A Transplant Journey - Rosalie Hetrick Rosalie is a lifelong resident of the Norristown Area. She is a flutist and taught general music K-4 for 25 years before retirement. She has been an active volunteer at the Ronald McDonald Camp which services cancer patients/survivors and their siblings for 20 years. Her role there is as a music specialist and cabin counselor.
Rosalie has 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren in the area. And her latest hobby is mandala painting which I learned during the pandemic. Rosalie suffered a 30 year bout with polycystic kidney disease with only two options, a life of dialysis or transplant. There are over 5000 people in the region needing a kidney. While doors volunteer, with a waiting list like that you are pretty much on your own in finding your own donor. And so with no family matches, she began her own campaign using Facebook and Social Media. Since she volunteered at the Ronald McDonald Camp every summer, that was where she found her 'altruistic donor' Anne-Marie Holstein. Rosalie and Ann-Marie spent many hours at the University of Pennsylvania Medical center. With constant challenges, it was anything but a sure conclusion. They both had the ir successful surgery in 2018. And Rosalie has spent every moment since helping others finding themselves in the same situation. Pictured is Rosalie and donor Ann-Marie
