RINGING THE BELLS FOR THE SALVATION ARMY
The ROTARY CLUB OF NORRISTOWN turned out last Saturday to ring bells for the SALVATION ARMY collection buckets at two locations.
Members turned out to support the annual donation collections at the ACME in Jeffersonville, and REDNERS in Audubon.

The Acme has been the most profitable location for the Kettle and today that kettle was chock full! We did make a difference! ROTARY CLUB OF NORRISTOWN DISTRIBUTES FUNDRAISER PROCEEDS
At our December 15 meeting, the Club awarded funds to three local organizations engaged in serving the community. The funds were raised during our November 16th Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction. The event raised $14,000 , with the distribution of 60% going to THE PATRICIAN SOCIETY, and 20% each to EXPRESSIVE PATH and GIRLS FIRST.
We sincerely thank all our sponsors and those that donated to the fundraiser.

MICHELLE McDYRE- MISSION KIDS
The Club welcomed MICHELL McDYRE of MISSION KIDS to speak to us about the mission and activities of her organization.
Mission Kids is a child advocacy center concentrating on assisting child abuse victims and their families in finding a way to safety and a path to healing. Michelle stated that 1 in 10 kids will be sexually abused before the age of 18. That number is 1 in 4 for girls, and 1 in 6 for boys, and that 90% if the kids know their abuser. She pointed out that most kids do not know that they are being abused due to the environment they live in and the lack of available knowledge on the subject. Mission Kids has programs , at their facilities, in schools, and in community settings to teach kids what inappropriate touching is, how to recognize inappropriate behavior, and most importantly, who and how to let someone know that they are being abused. Child abuse is more prevalent than most people realize, and in this area, Mission Kids is the only child abuse advocacy center. It works closely with several community organizations such as CHOP and Laurel House.
They are also working on a program to develop ways to prevent abuse and address the mental aspects of the trauma inflicted on abused kids.
