BMX Stunt Show 2013

June 1, 2103 - The Rotary Club of Norristown joined forces with the Montgomery County Health Department, the Norristown Police Department, Moss Hospital, Einstein Medical Center in the 4th annual BMX Bike Stunt Show and Bike Rodeo at Calvary Baptist Church. Patricia Fallon of the health department coordinated the event with the police department and sponsors as part of a safety campaign. NPD acquired raffle bicycles from local merchants and personal contributions from the officers. The concept of the show was originally launched to encourage youth to use bicycle helmets and safety equipment when biking, in order to minimize head injuries and save lives. There was a large community turnout which lined both sides of the street. The Each rider had to be personally fitted in order for the helmet to work properly. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, riders with helmets have an 88% reduction in risk of brain injury. The Rotary club contributed funding for a portion of the 163 free safety helmets that were given to local youth bicyclists. The crowd was treated to two professional BMX stunt shows and a raffle was conducted for about a dozen free bikes.  In two weeks, the health department will be cruising the neighborhood. Anyone seen wearing their helmet will receive a coupon for Rita's Water Ice and a safety certificate.
